Use of Oil-Final

The United States has a major dependency on oil. There is no doubting that and I too would say that i have fallen victim of oil's vice grip. In the United States on average each person uses 1.22 gallons of oil per day, that's gallons per year. This is way to much for only one person in only the United States to be using up in only one day.

When we as Americans have the option to drive to school, drive to a friend's house or walk or take the bus we always seem to chose the easier or faster of the two and that's driving. While it may seem faster it also only adds to what it is that is hurting us as Americans and that is our need for oil. I believe that if we could just start small with things like walking more, carpooling, riding bikes, making smart trips i.e. knowing where your going before hand, we could easily make it so were not using as much oil each day.

America is the third largest producer of oil and while that doesn't seem to bad when you think about it we are also the number one consumer of oil by far consuming way more that we produce every year. I'm not saying it would be an easy or fast transition into electric cars or monorails in the cities but it should be the way we plan on the future being because of how we are starting to run out of oil as a world.

Another major draw-back of oil is how harmfull it is to this enviroment. When burnt oil releases Co2 into the atmosphere and that creates the greenhouse affect that we hear so much about from Al Gore. If and when we cut down on our oil uses we will also cut down on the Co2 released into the atmosphere and slowly help the climate change and make this world a much better and much greener place.

Back in the day of the progressive era people weren't quite as worried about oil problems or the side effects of oil because they didn't use as much oil as were using now. They didn't drive to work everyday and consume as much oil as we do now.

In conclusion I believe the use of oil is a very unsustainable activity that we should stop or cut down upon. The use of oil is leading us down a never ending path, we need to switch to electric or battery powered cars as to slow down the climate change. I encourage everyone to inform a friend and for them to inform a friend so that sooner or later everyone is knowledgeable on this topic. If we could accomplish this the use of oil would no longer be an unsustainable activity.

Opinions on the debates

In both the presidential and the vice presidential debates all the candidates made alot of great points. In the presidential debates i believe that McCain answered the questions more directly showing accuracy but Obama answered alot more intelligently and with more thought so he shwowed the thinking skill of metacognition, so thats why i believe he won that debate. On the other hand in the vice-presidential debate both candidates did a great job of thinking flexibly and also doing a great job with thinking and communicating with clarity and percision. I still belive Biden won but i think because the way that Governor Palin was such an under-dog she came out with a moral victory and came out looking much smarter and quicker than others suspected she would. She proved that she is a legitement pick for vice-president of the United States.

Facts of the VP

Biden
1. McCain voted 477 times to raise taxes
2. Purpose raising taxes to higher class
3. Nobody making less than 250000 will see tax change
4. McCain wants to add 300 billion dollars in tax breaks to upper class
5. Obama and McCain voted same way on a troop funding bill-false statement

Palin
1. Voted for largest tax increase
2. Obama voted to increase taxes to middle class
3. Obama didn’t vote for a tax cut 94 times
4. Every year in office she reduced taxes
5. Obamais proposing trillion dollars in new spending
